The Disabled Students Group started in 2003. It acts as a link between disabled students and helps these students to communicate easily with the University and vice versa and is an invaluable resource of help and information for both parties. We are now mainly a virtual group, passing on information, from accessibility issues to meetings, and anything related to disability, and a platform to enable disabled students to contact and reach each other. We created an online discussion forum in 2004 (revamped in 2005) where we put all information. We have also been holding events during Freshers’ Weeks and the Students Festivals and we want to ensure every student (disabled or not, as anybody can become disabled, temporary or permanently) is aware of the forum and the group. The Disabled Students Group has been very successful in feeding information to the University about Disabled students, and has attracted the attention of students from other Scottish, English and even American Universities. Our aim is to make sure that disabled students always know where to go for information, or to advise us of their problems, to get help and simply to be able to link with other disabled students. We are always looking for people who want to be part of the Disabled Students Group. It is not much work, but just a way to be a bit more active and help more people (including yourself!)! One of our main aims is to be a link between the disabled students and the university. If you are interested, please feel free to email us at any time and ask as many questions as you want!
